VOLUNTEER

Inclusivity matters. We aim to ensure that anyone who wants to be involved is able to find a form of volunteer work that works for them, too.

Explore the drop-down menu below to learn about the opportunities we offer,
and find your place in the Rhythm Seed Family.

  • Our work parties are held regularly during the growing season. They provide a great opportunity for anyone to gain a little hands-on experience in regenerative urban farming.

While every growing season is different, there are certain, well, rhythms to our work parties.

In the spring and early summer, volunteers can learn how to direct sow seeds and propagate perennials. They can also learn to support seedlings started indoors through the hardening off and transplanting processes.

Through the summer, volunteers can learn about pruning and harvesting, plant breeding and seed selection, and proper mulching and water management.

In the fall and early winter, our work parties teach volunteers how to harvest and process seeds, propagate and plant crops for the coming spring, and prepare gardens for winter weather.

Come for a few minutes or stay all day! You can decide your level of involvement; we are delighted to have help in our busiest season, and love getting to know our volunteers. Contact us to stay in the loop!

  • We occasionally hold special events where extra hands are especially valuable! Help us with one of our plant sales, workshops, or fundraising campaigns and we will thank you at the end of the day with a small thank-you gift. Since these occasions may involve handling cash or personal information, these opportunities are reserved for established members. Notifications and signups are sent through our member communications channels.

  • Whether you are available to sit down and consult with us for one day or can make a more regular commitment, there is plenty of off-farm work to be done! Many of these areas of work can be done remotely. We are always looking for help with small construction jobs, web development, social media, bookkeeping, legal advice, and more.

Have an idea for how you could help but don’t see it listed here? Contact us!

  • “No research without action, and no action without research!” — Kurt Lewin

We want to engage researchers, students, partners, and members in citizen science on our farm. Visit our research page to learn more about our aims, and for contact information to share your idea.

  • If you are a student or recent graduate, and can commit to (an average of) three or more hours per week for at least three months, contact us! We can work together with your school or university to explore opportunities for academic credit, and for every three months you work with us you will be granted a complimentary membership (to a maximum of 3). These can be redeemed in the current calendar year or saved for subsequent years. They can also be gifted to people of your choice, or donated on your behalf to low-income members of our beneficiary organizations in the BIPOC community. Contact us for more information on requirements and eligibility.
